Progress Report

Waiting, waiting, waiting

And so time marches on and we watch the days and weeks tick by.  There has been some progress being slowly made behind the scenes to make this happen.  After what seemed like an eternal holding pattern, we’re getting closer to being ‘flight ready’.  Now that our one way tickets to the Gold Coast have been booked for 19 February 2017,  there is now an end date that we can work towards.  This has always been the plan as Stage One of the journey.

Business Sold

My business finally sold and settlement date was last week.  This went right to the wire before it was able to go unconditional, but the Lease documentation was signed in the final hours so that was a huge relief.  I’m finding that I’m still getting up before the sun rises and making lists of things I need to do for the day.  I know, I know, I know I’ve said in previous posts that I can’t be doing that in my next life but at the moment it gives me purpose, it gives me the satisfaction that everything I can tick off that list means that we are that much closer to completing everything we need to do.

It’s strange being a ‘kept woman’, desperate housewife, lady of leisure, bum or The Real Housewife of Pukekohe.  I don’t think that I have quite mastered the art but I can confirm that the washing is up to date, breakfast, lunch and dinner is sorted and even the bed gets made in the morning.

Travel Insurance

We had to do quite a bit of research into long term travel insurance.  A policy that was going to give us cover in sometimes dodgy locations along with sometimes dodgy activities.  1cover seem to fit the bill and we could take a 12 month policy which can be renewed while we are still overseas.  I don’t understand how anyone can travel long or short term without insurance cover.  It really is a cheap addition to your overseas travel expenses when you look at what you are covered for.

Empty House Syndrome

Well it had to happen eventually.  Yes, the 55in plasma flat screen TV and surround sound stereo system sold and left the premises this week.  I think that was a defining moment for Scotty.  We now watch a 20in TV on a fold out table.  Heaven forbid when the wine fridge goes…aarrgghh.  The lounge suite is now listed so it is going to be deck chairs sitting in front of the 20in sipping on warm wine.  It’s going to be all about timing when it comes time for the fridge/freezer and washing machine as they’re quite challenging to do without.

Vaccinations Booked

That might have to be a whole separate blog!  We’ve got our appointment next week with the specialist travel doctors to find out what we need to get.  Hep A, rabies, diphtheria, tetanus, yellow fever and many more options are quite on the cards.  The warnings change over time and some are no longer required so I guess we’ll find out when we get there.

Backyard Exploring

You may have read my last post on the Tongariro Crossing and we certainly intend to tick a few more trips off our list before we fly the coop.  We have a visit planned to the deep south of Invercargill in January to visit Scotty’s family and spend a little time in Queenstown.  We also would like to do a few hiking and cycling tracks that we have had our eye on for a while so this will be a great time to try and fit in as much as we can.

THERE IS ALWAYS TIME TO CHANGE THE ROAD YOU ARE ON

  1. Awesome Guys. Laughed about the TV. You should come and stay with us – we only have a 26 inch, but it would seem huge after a 20 inch!!!!
